Robust PCA with compressed data

چکیده
The robust principal component analysis (RPCA) problem seeks to separate lowrank trends from sparse outliers within a data matrix, that is, to approximate a n⇥d matrix D as the sum of a low-rank matrix L and a sparse matrix S. We examine the robust principal component analysis (RPCA) problem under data compression, where the data Y is approximately given by (L+S)·C, that is, a low-rank + sparse data matrix that has been compressed to size n⇥m (with m substantially smaller than the original dimension d) via multiplication with a compression matrix C. We give a convex program for recovering the sparse component S along with the compressed low-rank component L · C, along with upper bounds on the error of this reconstruction that scales naturally with the compression dimension m and coincides with existing results for the uncompressed setting m = d. Our results can also handle error introduced through additive noise or through missing data. The scaling of dimension, compression, and signal complexity in our theoretical results is verified empirically through simulations, and we also apply our method to a data set measuring chlorine concentration across a network of sensors to test its performance in practice.

State estimation is the foundation of any control and decision making in power networks. The first requirement for a secure network is a precise and safe state estimator in order to make decisions based on accurate knowledge of the network status. This paper introduces a new estimator which is able to detect bad data with few calculations without need for repetitions and estimation residual cal...

متن کاملProvable Dynamic Robust PCA or Robust Subspace Tracking
Dynamic robust PCA refers to the dynamic (time-varying) extension of the robust PCA (RPCA) problem. It assumes that the true (uncorrupted) data lies in a low-dimensional subspace that can change with time, albeit slowly. The goal is to track this changing subspace over time in the presence of sparse outliers. This work provides the first guarantee for dynamic RPCA that holds under weakened vers...
متن کاملSynthetic Aperture Radar Imaging and Motion Estimation via Robust Principle Component Analysis
We consider the problem of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging and motion estimation of complex scenes. By complex we mean scenes with multiple targets, stationary and in motion. We use the usual setup with one moving antenna emitting and receiving signals. We address two challenges: (1) the detection of moving targets in the complex scene and (2) the separation of the echoes from the statio...
